Cars, bikes got cheaper, food got costlier in May

Consumer inflation reached 3.93% in May, which mean prices were that much higher over April 2025.

This is a significant jump from 3.48% inflation in April. Food inflation also saw a sharp spike at 4.78% from 4.2% in March.

Retail inflation is still under the RBI’s target of 4%, though analysts expect prices to rise over coming months.

What got cheaper, what got costlier?

  • WHAT GOT CHEAPER? 1) Cars: -7.19% 2) Motor cycles and scooters: -3.56 3) Some food prices: Prices of potato and peas prices fell year-on-year.
