Does your investment app have a 'Verified' tag?

Market regulator SEBI and Google have partnered to add 'verified' badges to registered stock trading apps on the Play Store.

This helps users identify genuine apps and avoid fake or cloned apps that scam investors. Only SEBI-registered entities can have verified labels.

SEBI has also asked Google to use AI to track “finfluencers” spreading misleading investment advice. Over 1.3 lakh misleading posts and dozens of fake apps have already been flagged and removed.

What's in it for you?

Safer investing: Verified badges can help you avoid fake apps and scams, which have been rising rapidly online.

Content trust shift: Financial advice on social media may become more regulated, reducing misleading “get rich quick” content.

Platform changes: Google, Meta and others may tighten rules on financial ads and creators, changing what you see online.
