Eating out, ordering in to get a lot more expensive
News illustration

The price of commercial LPG cylinders (used by restaurants) has jumped by up to ₹53 across several cities starting June 1.

This comes just a month after an over ₹900 hike in May. A 19-kg cylinder now costs over ₹3,000 in major cities.

Domestic LPG prices are unchanged, but businesses are directly impacted. Restaurants, hotels, and food vendors rely heavily on LPG.

What's in it for you?

  • MAY GET COSTLIER TO EAT OUT OR ORDER IN: Restaurants and eateries may pass on the cost and eating out or ordering in may get more expensive.
  • MENU CHANGES: Several restaurants have been adapting to rising prices by removing items that use more fuel, or changing proportions.
  • MORE SHUTDOWNS?: Many restaurants and food outlets across the country had shut down over the past few months due to shortage of LPG. The price hike could force more such shutdowns.
