Job Scams: GenZs are more at risk. What are the Red Flags
News illustration

LinkedIn says nearly 49% of Gen Z job seekers almost fell for fake job scams online.

Many scams use fake recruiters, urgent offers, and requests to move chats off-platform.

Around 32% of Gen Z admitted ignoring warning signs because jobs feel too competitive to miss.

What you should do

  • AVOID THE RED FLAGS: 1) Do not agree to move to personal chat from application platform. 90% of reported scam messages involve moving to private messaging, as per the LinkedIn report. 2) If you are asked for sensitive information or payment upfront, cross-verify. 3) If you receive phone calls for your application without too much context, double-check.
  • LOOK FOR GREEN FLAGS: 1) Check for Verification badges on recruiter profiles. 2) Do identity checks for the persons you are engaging with. 3) Applying through referrals or known persons is more secure.
