Cooking gas just got costlier again. Will hikes continue?
The price of a domestic LPG cylinder has been increased by ₹29. This is the second LPG price hike since the US-Iran conflict.
The price of a 14.2-kg LPG cylinder in Delhi is ₹ 942, in Mumbai ₹ 941, and ₹ 994 in Hyderabad.
The government said domestic LPG production has been raised by more than 60% to offset the constrained imports.
What's in it for you?
- •WILL THERE BE MORE PRICE HIKES: What is more worrisome is what the government said post the hike: 'Indian households continue to pay among the lowest cooking gas prices in the world'. It compared prices to Pakistan, Bangladesh, as well as USA and Canada. It said the actual price of a cylinder has risen to over ₹1,600. Is this a precursor to more hikes?
- •HIGHER KITCHEN EXPENSES: Indian will have to pay more for a basic necessity used every day for cooking. This comes even as prices of groceries and food is rising.
- •EATING IN AND EATING OUT EXPENSIVE: The price of commercial LPG cylinders (used by restaurants) was also increased last week by up to ₹53 across several cities. This means eating at home and eating out is costlier.
